According to Metro Manila mayors OK single ticketing system in NCR | Inquirer News, The Metro Manila Traffic Code, which opens the way for the implementation of the single ticketing system throughout the National Capital Region, was approved by the Metro Manila Council (MMC) on Wednesday. 17 mayors of Metro Manila held a hearing at the Pasig City headquarters of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
The single-ticketing system's goals, according to MMDA interim chairman Don Artes, are to centralize fines and prevent motorist confusion. By providing online payment options, it also wants to make paying penalties simpler. The new ticketing system will go into force when each local government entity implements its own legislation, and the Metro Manila Traffic Code must yet be adopted by a specific ordinance, according to Artes.
Francis Zamora, the president of the MMC and the mayor of San Juan City, said that by March 15, all mayors in Metro Manila have already committed to updating their own ordinances to reflect the new traffic code. Zamora claims that the council anticipates the Metro Manila Code and, consequently, the unified ticketing system, to be completely operational by the end of April.
