According to The Star, the Los Angeles-based animation studio OddBot has optioned the middle-grade graphic novel Seance Tea Party by Malaysian cartoonist Reimena Yee for an animation film.

An animated film will be made from the graphic novel about a 12-year-old girl named Lora who fears growing up.

"I only think that having the chance to engage in a different medium is cool. Being a devotee of animation, I have many colleagues and acquaintances in the field. It's been entertaining to see the procedure for approving a cartoon, Yee writes in an email.

The KL-born Yee's first children's graphic novel, Seance Tea Party, was released by Penguin Random House in 2020. The OddBot team showed interest in turning the novel into an animation production in December 2021.

Yee, who will serve as a consultant with OddBot for the animated movie, says, "We had a chat, and I really liked Chris Hamilton's (OddBot CEO) personal attachment to Seance Tea Party and both his and his young daughter's thoughts on the book's ideas and pictures.

The World in Deeper Inspection, a gothic webcomic by author-illustrator Yee, was later released as a two-volume hardcover edition. In addition, Yee was also a finalist for the 2019 Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity in Comics for the same webcomic.
