Education Minister Pan Wen-chung says the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) will begin the vaccination of some 1.25 million 12-17 years olds with the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine on 23 September.
According to Pan, junior and senior high school students will have the choice of receiving the vaccine either at their school or at a hospital.
However, those who attend elementary or overseas schools, or are being home-schooled, will have to go to a hospital to receive their jabs.

And any students who develop side effects after receiving their shot will be allowed to take vaccination leave, which will not be reflected in their attendance records, Pan said.
That vaccination leave can last up to three days, including the day the shot is administered and can be extended if necessary. Parents can also apply for leave to take care of their children after receiving the vaccine.
Pan stated that the BNT vaccine targets include students in middle school, high school, 5-year junior college program, and elementary students who have reached the age of 12 before September 1, 2021.

3 Vaccination Reminders for Middle and High school students:
- Children's willingness to choose and be vaccinated will be evaluated and approved by their parents.
- Children must respect one another regardless of which vaccine shot was received.
- Children and parents must fully understand all information regarding the COVID-19 vaccine.
If students are uncomfortable receiving their vaccinations on campus for special reasons, children and parents can visit the online "COVID-19 Vaccination Registration and Reservation" platform to select which medical institutions they would like to book their vaccinations at.
