On the eve of Morgan Perigo’s 83rd birthday, an unexpected package arrived at his doorstep: the 1965 McMaster University graduation ring he had lost 47 years earlier.

The sender was Alex Davis, a professional free diver and spear fisherman who operates a tourism business in Barbados.

During a quiet week for tourism, Davis had turned to monitoring webcams at a coastal spot affected by Hurricane Beryl earlier that year. The diver displays the ring he found.

“Where there used to be pristine, sandy beaches, the hurricane revealed rocks and hidden terrain. With that in mind, I decided to check out areas that seemed newly exposed.”
