Hand in Hand to Theatre: Led Students to Understand Culture of New Residents

Taoyuan is a multicultural city with over 60,000 new resident families, and more than 20,000 of them are from southeast nations. On October 15th, Arts Facilities Management Center of Taoyuan City held a series of Hand in Hand to Theatre event, and invited Six Arts Theatre to present two performances in the name of Adventures to Southeast.

The shows took the theme of traveling in the world to introduce the countries of new residents such as Philippine, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. It hopes to provide chances for children and students in Taiwan to experience diverse culture and further learn how to respect and embrace other ethic groups.

Arts Facilities Management Center of Taoyuan City stated that there are four programs and eight performances of Hand in Hand to Theatre events, also with various performances such as magic shows and musicals. There are 77 elementary school and over 8,000 students signed up to attend the show.

Teacher of Lung Elementary School Chen Tzy-an (陳子安) said that it is the third year to join the event of Hand in Hand to Theatre, and students are all excited to see the performances and programs. Even though they took a three-hour long ride to the Art Center, they did not feel exhausted. He considered that it is a very meaningful activity for the students to enjoy professional theatre performances.

Hand in Hand to Theatre is co-held by the Arts Facilities Management Center of Taoyuan City and Education Bureau which also subsidized transportation fee and insurance to reduce the burden of school. In addition to balancing the urban-rural gap in Taoyuan, it hopes to implement aesthetic education with diverse performances.
