Changhua City currently has over 25,000 new residents from various countries, injecting fresh vitality into the city's rich historical heritage. On December 28, the city government held the "Cultural Co-creation x Changhua New Life Market and New Resident Children Excellence Scholarship Recognition Event" to promote multicultural exchange and provide an opportunity for citizens, new resident children, students, teachers, and community residents to experience cultural diversity from around the world.
The event featured exotic cuisines, cultural performances, an arts and crafts market, and local specialties to showcase the rich multicultural essence brought by new residents. The city government also established the "Changhua City New Resident Children Excellence Scholarship" to encourage outstanding achievements among new resident children. This year, 10 exceptional students were selected through a committee review process. The first-place winner received NT$100,000, the second-place winner NT$50,000, three third-place winners NT$30,000 each, and five fourth-place winners NT$20,000 each. The recipients excelled not only academically but also in sports, music, and the arts.Mayor Lin Shih-Hsien Takes a Group Photo with Students Awarded the New Immigrant Children Excellence Scholarship (Photo/Source: Changhua City Office Website)
The "Changhua New Life Market" also invited new residents to set up stalls selling desserts and snacks from Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines, as well as showcasing handmade creative goods with a unique cultural flavor. The market offered 10 dishes combining exotic and Taiwanese flavors, providing attendees with a taste of cultural fusion.

The event was successfully organized with the support of the Changhua County New Resident Development Association and the Southeast Asian Cultural Association. Performances included traditional Indonesian dances by the Sri Kanti Dance Troupe, classical Chinese art performances by the Yixin Dance Troupe, musical renditions by the New Generation Feng ME Band, Mongolian festive dances, and Indonesian folk song performances, highlighting the richness and diversity of various ethnic cultures.
Mayor Lin Shih-hsien expressed gratitude to local philanthropic business leaders and community members, including Wu Chong-jang, chairman of Quan Tuo Industrial Co., Ltd. In early 2021, they supported the purchase of artist-painted lanterns, with proceeds donated to the education fund for new resident children. Their efforts have provided strong support for the academic development of these children, laying a foundation for cultivating talent for the nation’s future.
