New Residents are the new blood for the immigration officers

New Residents are the new blood for the immigration officers

The minister of the Interior Affairs, Hsu Kuo-Yung, attended the graduation ceremony of the seven edition immigration agency’s staff training program on Nov 15th. There are more than two thousand and one hundred participants at first. Only 124 people who passed the exams and the training processes will be distribute to different departments in the Immigration Agency to begin their jobs.

Indicated by Minister Hsu, “The official is promoting New Southbound Policy, so we create programs for the second generation of the new residents.”  It is worth mentioned that there are two graduates, Zheng Pei-Yi and Pan Lin-Yan, participated in the other profession training program before. After some economic and trade courses and also visiting corporations and training for future career, they widened their international horizon and developed their self-identification. They started to learn their new resident languages from their moms and started to prepare for the official exam for the Immigration Agency. In 2018, they passed the exams in Indonesian and Vietnamese respectively and served the new residents for the government since then. Also, The Minster emphasizes the great responsibilities of those immigration officers of being equal to every foreign visitor and should be self-disciplined and loyal to the country.

Besides, there are two new resident mothers passed all the subjects, official immigration exams and physical tests which impressed Minister Hsu the most. One of them is a Vietnamese mom, Yan Pei-Yin, who was a housewife at first when she married to Taiwan. She started a study program since 1996 and graduated from the open university. Being as a translator in Taipei Immigrant helping center, she prepared for the test of being an immigration officer. The other mom is from Indonesia, Huang Ciao-Juan, who is a translator in Hsinchu District Court and the Hsinchu Immigration helping center, being encouraged by her colleagues, she finally passed the official Indonesian exam for the immigration agency.

“New residences are an important property to Taiwan, so the government is promoting those policies on new residents.” Said, Minister Hsu. However, the result can’t be seen right away, just like the training program for the second generation of the new residents. Those second generations are prepared to fit into the future industry since they are little and create a prospective future career path by making use of their advantages. The government will be helping them to find their way and directions.
