Cheuvront was reported missing on Saturday after a tracking app she was using stopped updating, and friends were unable to contact her. SANParks, which manages Table Mountain, initiated a search involving rangers, wilderness search teams, and trail runners. The search continued until late Saturday but had to be paused due to practicality. The next day, an aircraft was deployed and successfully located her body.

South African authorities have reminded the public of the dangers of hiking alone, recommending that people hike in groups of at least four for safety.
