NIA Reissued Resident Certificate to Migrant Fishers after Bridge Collapsed

Nanfangao bridge in Yilan County collapsed killing six migrant fishers, some of the surviving fishermen’s personal property and resident certificates were lost in the sea as the ship crushed. The Head of North District Affairs Brigade Tang Minyao (唐敏耀) gave the reissued resident certificate by the project to fishers and further deliver donated supplies from the society.

Tang Minyao stated that the bridge collapsed destroyed three fish ships which caused the injury of fishers and it also reduced the unemployment of these migrant fishers all of sudden. Due to all personal belongings and resident certificates were sank into the harbor, the fishers can only temporarily stay in the shelters that arranged by the shipowners and intermediaries.

In order to provide the basic life support for the migrant workers before they transfer to a new employer, North District Affairs Brigade asked for the assist of employment service station of Yilan County to cooperate with the shipowners and intermediaries. Moreover, it further initiates donation activity for the migrant workers with public and private sectors such as shelters, specialized operation corps, AGAPE Association in Yilan County, the Northern Area Luodong Office of National Taxation Bureau and I Lan Foods Industry. The donation activity expects to raise the daily supplies for the fishers and help them comfort their emotions.

The Head of North District Affairs Brigade Tang Minyao gave the reissued resident certificate to migrant fishers today. He accompanied the representatives from the public and private sections as well as the new residents from Philippine, Indonesia, Vietnam and China to deliver donated supplies to the representative of fishermen.

The Indonesian migrant worker Gadi, who suffered a broken fracture due to a collapsed bridge, said that “I lost all the personal belongings in the collapsed bridge incident, but I feel touched with the friendliness from government and the warmth of the fellow immigrants.” Another Filipino worker, Royo Jhon Vicente, stated that “the new Taiwanese shipowner took care of us after the incident. I am very grateful to get these charity supplies and reissued resident certificate today.” The Filipino new resident, Xia Tingna, said that she appreciated the National Immigration Agency for integrating charitable resources so that she is able to have the opportunity to contribute too.
