Lin Su Zhen (林素貞), an immigrant from Thailand, set up a Thai food stall in Minxiong Township, Chiayi County that enables migrant workers and immigrants to draw comfort from their hometown dishes. Besides, locals can have a taste of Thai cuisine here too.

Three years ago, Lin Su Zhen’s husband was admitted to the long-term care center due to a stroke. Therefore, she became the only pillar of the food stall. Unfortunately, the stall was again heavily affected because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The staff of the National Immigration Agency (Chiayi County Service Center) thus visited Ms. Lin and provided supportive services together with the Family Service Center for New Immigrants of Chiayi City.

The 66-year-old Lin has been residing in Taiwan for more than 20 years. She was working in an iron factory. She decided to devote her energies to starting a food stall because of her colleague’s words, “Your bento looks delicious, can I have a try?”

Facing immense medical fees and having recovered from the knee operation, she endures the pain and still purchases ingredients in the early morning. Once she has free time, she would visit her husband and hope they can keep each other company while getting old.

“Although I cannot understand the Chinese language much, I am grateful to those who have helped me along the way.”
