Mindano Development Authority (MinDA) launches a post disaster project that will help victims of the series of quakes in North Cotabato and Davao del Sur. The project was focused on helping quake victims to get back to their lives again by taking opportunity of the reduced economic activity due to the closure of most establishments selling basic necessities. The Tienda Project, conceptualized by MinDA, is in partnership with the Davao-based LTS Corp, which operates the NCCC chain of malls and retail stores, selling basic goods at reasonable prices.
“This post disaster intervention project will help those quake victims to be self-reliant and independent as they rebuild their lives after the series of earthquakes,” piñol said.
The earthquakes victims will be grouped as cooperatives and operate the Tienda projects in each area. They will be trained in financial literacy and livelihood, and they will be organized into association and cooperatives to own and manage the MinDA TienDA outlets which are established on the first quarter of 2020 in all earthquake affected areas by themselves. In the meantime, MinDA will also seek the support of development partners in providing funds for capitalization for the operation of the MinDA Tienda outlets. The project is first of its kind in the history of post-disaster interventions in the country. It will be seen as a manifestation of the Filipino’s spirit of self-reliance after disasters.
