Taiwan Italy opens bilateral automatic customs clearance e-Gate.
Traveling to Italy is more convenient! The Ministry of the Interior held Taiwan-Italy automated customs clearance gates (e-Gate) ceremony at Novotel Taipei Taoyuan International Airport today (26). The Minister of the Interior, Hsu Guo-Yong and the representative of Italian Economic, Trade, and Cultural Promotion Office, Mr. Davide Giglio announced that Taiwan had become the world's 8th non-EU country that can use the e-Gate when entering Italy. Since today, Italian travelers can also use the e-Gate when entering Taiwan.
Hsu Guo-Yong said that Taiwan had established a reciprocal e-Gate program with Italy in June this year, which was officially announced today. For those who come to Taiwan, as long as they have a valid Italian biometric passport of more than six months and there is no record of violation of laws and regulations in Taiwan, they can register for free to use Taiwan's e-gate to enter and leave Taiwan.
In addition, Taiwanese travel to Italy without prior application. They can scan the passport in front of the gate of Italy's e-gate and scan their face and fingerprint to identify the entry and exit. At present, apart from Taiwan, only the United States, Canada, South Korea, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and Israel can enjoy such convenient and time-saving services.
Mr. Davide Giglio said that there are only three direct flights from Taiwan to Taiwan in the week. However, EVA Air will open direct flights from Taiwan to Italy every day next year. The number of people who travel between Italy and Taiwan, whether it is trade or tourism, will rise again and must be prepared in advance. In addition to the opening of e-gate, Italy is also preparing for the arrival of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. It has established a friendly Chinese environment at the airport and welcomes Taiwanese to visit Italy.
The Ministry of the Interior said that the United States, South Korea, and Australia have been using Taiwan's e-Gate when entering Taiwan. By the end of August this year, the total number of applications for using Taiwan's e-Gate exceeded 210,000, which is undoubtedly a milestone in Taiwan's promotion of the trusted passenger program. The government will also complete a new generation of e-Gate construction by the end of this year. In addition to speeding up passenger clearance, it will be more conducive to open and reciprocal use with other countries to create safe and convenient border services.
