The New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF, 紐約亞洲電影節) entered its 20th edition, and 6 Taiwanese films were selected. The animation "City of Lost Things" (廢棄之城) directed by Yi Chi-yen (易智言) was shortlisted for the best feature film award, and the feature film "The Silent Forest" (無聲) directed by Ke Chen-nien (柯貞年) was featured in the main poster. The current film festival is the biggest in its history and is scheduled to be held from August 6 to 22, with more than 60 films from Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and other countries.  The event will be held in both physical and in online virtual cinemas

According to the Taipei Cultural Center in New York (駐紐約台北文化中心), in addition to "City of Lost Things" and "The Silent Forest", other Taiwanese films selected this year also include the comedy "A Leg" (腿), a subversion of Shakespeare's classic dramas, "As We Like It" (揭大歡喜), the romantic story "My Missing Valentine" (消失的情人節) and the short story "Piglet Piglet" (美豬肉圓) directed by upcoming student director Lin Tsung-yen (林宗諺). The six selected films are all rich and distinctive, showing diversity in Taiwanese films.

In addition, NYAFF is hosted by the New York Asia Film Foundation (紐約亞洲電影基金會) and is known as the most popular Asian film festival (亞洲電影節) in North America. For the first time, selected films in 2021 are grouped by themes, such as "Beyond Borders" (超越國界), "Crowd Pleasers" (觀眾青睞), and "Frontlines" (社會前線), "Genre Masters" (類型大師), "Next/Now" (未來/現在), "Standouts" (傑出經典) and "Vanguards" (領航先鋒).
