In Taiwan, we fly the sky lanterns to pray. However, do you know how do Thai people pray on Loy Krathong Festival?
The second department of the immigration agency in Kaoshiung launched the family regulation and law educated course on the 15th Nov, which the new residents and their family can experience the traditional culture in Thailand on that day. In the meantime, they also promote the idea of anti-bribery due to the upcoming presidential election and Legislative Yuan election in January.
Immigration Agency invited the Thai translator, Ms. Ho, to teach everyone how to make the Thai floating lanterns by using the leaves and the stems from banana trees. The floating lantern has a symbol of going through bad things and going on with the life together with your partner by saying goodbye to the bad things in the past and praying for the upcoming next year to be healthy and happiness.
“ I made this beautiful lantern with my husband and met so many friends in the class. I believe that there will be more happiness to come in the future.”, said, Jing, one of the participants.
This cultural exchange course not only bring all the new residents together, having this great opportunity to learn from others different backgrounds and cultures. The immigrant agency also designed a multi-language anti bribery poster to tell every new resident and their family not to fall in to the bribery trap and should say NO to those bribery act bravely.

We are happy to see how everyone from different countries exchange their cultural differences all together and join us on the special Loi Krathong festival. Also, because of the upcoming election, we hope that our promotion of the anti-bribery could help everyone learn more about the regulations in their daily life and also help them to learn the importance of saying NO to any kinds of bribery act during the election so as to make the right chose for themselves.”
