According to the 4wayvoice, the book launch event ‘Speak Heart through Paintings – Picture book creation with linguistic pluralism’ guided by the Ministry of Culture (MOC) and hosted by the National Hsinchu Living Arts Center was held in Hsinchu orbookshop (或者書店) recently. The authors, famous instructors of the picture book and consultants were invited to attend the meeting. More than 500 people were online for the live broadcast and the event successfully rounded off.

Since 2019, the National Hsinchu Living Arts Center launched the ‘New Immigrants & Migrant Workers’ Native Language Picture Book Creation Project’ that allows students to create picture books based on their own experience.

‘Speak Heart through Paintings – Picture book creation with linguistic pluralism’ published this year is a collection of 6 High Distinction Awards in 2019 and 2020. Adhering to the goal of promoting the development of multiculturalism and implementing cultural equality, the physical books were presented to The Public Library nationwide and New Immigrant Family Service Centers. Besides, free e-books are also available online for the public to read. It is hoped that through the picture books, the respect and understanding of multiculturalism in Taiwan will be deepened.

The new book launch event was invited Shi Ai Li (史璦琍) from France, Zeng Shi Qin (曾詩琴) from Malaysia, and Lu Yu Man (盧玉滿) from Myanmar. They respectively read aloud the works they created in their own Mother tongues, and shared their creation journeys with the audience, expressing the sincere emotions conveyed by the picture books.

The famous picture book writers Shi Zheng Ting (施政廷), Xu Zeng Qiao (許增巧) and Chen Ying Fan (陳盈帆) are the instructors of the picture book training course.

They shared their experience in guiding the creation of picture books in their speeches, as well as the serious & hard-working attitudes of the students they witnessed throughout the course. The students show their own life stories with picture books, and these have struck an emotional chord among the audience and the instructors.

In addition, to promote ‘Speak Heart through Paintings – Picture book creation with linguistic pluralism’, picture books were distributed to organizations that dedicate to the development of diverse mother tongues and cultural development. The e-book version is also available on the official website of the National Hsinchu Living Arts Center and the online e-book platform to make them more accessible to readers.
