Public kindergartens in Kaohsiung City have completely opened extended care services since July of this year to accommodate parents' demands for childcare while they are at work. During the academic year, service hours are from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., and during the winter and summer breaks, they are from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The hourly rate is limited at NT$50. The class can begin as soon as one individual registers.

The Kaohsiung City Government's Education Bureau noted that, in contrast to the past, parents were responsible for covering all costs before. The local administration now offers financial aid. During the academic year, parents pay after-school expenses less than NT$2,200 each month and winter and summer vocation fee less than NT$50 each hour, which significantly lessened parents' workload.

The Education Bureau further claimed that a range of activities, including physical activities, aesthetic experiences, gaming engagement, language acquisition, etc., will be offered to children during the care service time. Parents can comfortably arrange daycare and work since they don't have to rush to pick up their kids.
