Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) recently attended the “Parent-Child Day for New Immigrants (新住民親子活動日)”, and enjoyed a wonderful weekend together with the citizens.

Besides taking photos with the participants who are new immigrants and their children, there are also booths available for Mayor Ko to try tea & hand-made snacks, as well as admire handicrafts made by new immigrants.

Mayor Ko said that democracy, freedom, and cultural diversity are the city's political values. Livability and sustainability are the city's goals. The new immigrant who comes to Taiwan plays an important part in enriching Taipei's multiculturalism.

In Taipei City, there are New Immigrants Hall (新移民會館), Taipei New Immigration Woman and Family Service Center (婦女家庭服務中心), and New Immigration Committee (新移民委員會) under Civil Affairs Bureau which deal with issues regarding new immigrants. The participatory budgeting also invites new immigrants to propose and take the initiative to speak up for their rights and interests.

Mayor Ko stated that new immigrants are an essential part of Taipei City as they bring their own culture to the local community. Whether it is the MassKara Festival of The Philippines, or the Water Lantern Festival held in recent years, the events have successfully brought everyone together.
