The Environmental Protection Administration of the Executive Yuan and the environmental protection bureaus of counties and cities jointly held the "112 Years Cherishing Chef Selection Activity," (首惜廚師甄選活動) inviting chefs who have distinctive creativity and ideas about food cherishing to propose "delicious" recipes and "Creative Teaching Plans," the activity’s aim was to promote the education of cherishing food and protecting the environment, starting now and lasting until noon on June 15, 2023.

The Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) is the event's sponsor. Prior to the national competition on September 16, preliminary cooking competitions will be held in 22 cities and counties on June 17 and August 11. According to the EPA, 1,600 tons of kitchen garbage are recycled daily in Taiwan and accounts for up to 30% of people's trash.

Both the cooking and instruction categories are open to competitors. The requirement for contestants in the teaching category is that they create a little video—under three minutes—showing others how to prepare their meal. The first reward is for NT$100,000, and there will be further prizes worth a total of NT$700,000.
