According to the Ministry of Culture, the XIII Florence Biennale, which featured the artworks of three Taiwanese artists Liao Jau-Yng (廖釗瑩), Lin Chi-yu (林吉裕), and Hsu Ma-li (徐瑪莉), concluded on Oct. 31.

The XIII Florence Biennale was held at Fortezza da Basso from Oct. 23 to 31, and the award ceremony was held on Oct. 31. The Ministry of Culture congratulated Liao Jau-Yng, who was awarded silver in the Installation Art category; Lin Chi-yu, who won Special Commendations from the President; and Hsu Ma-li, who was awarded fifth place in the Photography category.

The Cultural Division of Taipei Representative Office in Italy pointed out that a total of seven Taiwanese artists participated in the biennale this year and competed for the biennale awards. However, only Liao Jau-Yng, who lives in Spain, was able to attend the exhibition in person.

Having attended the biennale in support of the artists, the Cultural Division pointed out that it is delighted to know that the three Taiwanese artists were favored and recognized by the international jury. In the future, the Cultural Division will hold a series of art and culture activities in Italy to foster further in-depth dialogue between Taiwan and Italy through cultural exchanges.

Founded in 1997, the Florence Biennale is one of the three major art exhibitions in Italy, along with the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadriennale. Since the first edition, almost 6000 artists from more than 100 countries have participated in the biennale. In recent years, many artists from Taiwan have participated in the exhibition and won awards, successfully attracting the attention of international art circles, demonstrated Taiwan’s soft power, and deepened the exchange and interaction between Taiwan and Italy.
