New Taipei City Government and the Manila Economic and Cultural Office recently arranged a road race (菲律賓125年國慶暨移工歡樂路跑友誼賽) to commemorate the Philippines' National Day and invited Filipinos living in Taiwan to join them. Famous Filipino singers Luke Mejares and Heaven Peralejo were also invited to perform in addition to the road run.

There are presently 12,876 Filipino migrant workers and more than 1,700 new Filipino immigrants in New Taipei City, according to the director (陳瑞嘉) of Labor Affairs Bureau of the New Taipei City Government that he believes that by holding this event, Filipino migrant workers and new immigrants will be able to sense the efforts made by New Taipei City to encourage multiculturalism as a way to thank Filipino friends who traveled from a distance for their contributions to the city.

Filipino migrant workers carry out crucial tasks in Taiwan's factories and institutions, according to Silvestre H. Bello III, the Philippines' ambassador to Taiwan. Employers in Taiwan are also very considerate of migrant workers, ensuring that they are treated fairly at work.
