African swine fever affects nearly all other Asian nations, with the exception of Taiwan and Japan, which are unaffected. However, when the border was opened up, there were much more infractions of carrying pork products than before, going from 32 cases in January 2023 to 74 cases in April. The Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine has increased law enforcement at Taiwan's ports and airports as well as the scrutiny of inbound aircraft from various nations and areas where the African swine fever virus has been detected, including China, Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam, and Malaysia.

According to the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, Council of Agriculture, 170 instances of unlawfully transporting animal and plant goods were discovered between April 10 and May 10. This included illegally transporting pork products including sausages, ham, and floss egg rolls. The unlawful infractions of plant goods like fruit and timber is also included,

The Central Emergency Operation Center also reiterated to the general public that no matter where one travels, they must verify the contents of their luggage upon returning to Taiwan and refrain from bringing in any animal or plant items. To avoid being fined, you can also take the initiative to inquire to the animal and plant quarantine counter at the port or airport if you have any reservations.

The Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine also reminded the public by emphasizing that transporting meat unlawfully results in a punishment of 200,000 NTD for the first offense and a fine of 1 million NTD for a second offense.
