According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, foreign and domestic travelers who have received full COVID-19 vaccination are now permitted to visit Boracay Island without the necessity for a negative swab test result.

Gov. Florencio Miraflores of Aklan issued an executive order on Feb. 1 lifting the necessity for a negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test result, which was reinstated on Jan. 9 following a surge in COVID-19 cases.

After the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases approved the Department of Tourism's proposal to enable fully vaccinated visitors from visa-free nations to visit the Philippines, the new travel policies were announced.

Curfew

Tourists who have been fully vaccinated will just need to provide their vaccination card or certificate, as well as proof of identification, such as passports for foreign visitors. They must also provide proof of hotel booking confirmation as well as flight or travel information.

Tourists who have been partially or completely vaccinated must nevertheless submit a negative RT-PCR test result within 72 hours of their departure date.

The order also eased limitations in Boracay, with business establishments now being open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The municipal government of Malay, where the 1,032-hectare island is located, has the authority to impose a curfew on the island.

Tourist arrivals on the island are projected to increase as a result of the updated travel instructions and the COVID-19 alert status in Metro Manila and nearby provinces being reduced to alert level 2.
