Taipei Zoo animals will be part of audience at special performance of ‘Water Color’

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — "Water Color" (水彩) will return to Taipei Zoo on July 6 for a special performance, with animals part of the audience, after doing well in China.

The acclaimed multidisciplinary theater performance aims to raise awareness of environmental sustainability through music, dance, painting, and poetry. The show was created by the head of the Graduate Institute of Performing Arts at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), Jerry Hsia (夏學理).

Hsia has recruited talented individuals from a variety of disciplines for the project, including artist Yang En-Sheng (楊恩生), pianist Tong Jhong-Yi (童仲頤), the former lead dancer of Taiwan dance troupe Cloud Gate (雲門) Wu Yi-Fang (吳義芳), and music director Ju Yun-Song (朱雲嵩).

Jerry Hsia said he had been inspired by the story of painter Yang En-sheng (楊恩生), who has spent much of his most of his life abroad fighting for the preservation of natural animal habitats.

Yang added that he has spent more than three decades painting animals. Now, he would like to perform for animals, as a token of gratitude.

Hsia said, the curator of Taipei Zoo, Jing Shih-chian (金仕謙), and Yang are friends. He added that Jing enjoyed the debut of “Water Color” last year so much, he agreed to showcase the performance at Taipei Zoo.

The event will take place in front of the flamingo area on July 6. The first gig will kick off at 6:30 p.m. and again at 7:45 p.m. For more information, please visit Taipei Zoo’s website or NTNU Facebook page.
