The Tokyo city government recently invited the Taiwanese search and rescue team—made up of the National Fire Agency, the Taipei City Fire Department, and the Fire Department of New Taipei City—to go to Japan for a six-day exercise and training in search and rescue technologies. In order to improve future collaboration between the two parties, the National Fire Agency indicated its wish to establish communication channels with pertinent Japanese units during this tour.

The Taiwanese search and rescue team traveled to Tokyo for training and drills, the National Fire Agency noted. In addition to improving their rescue skills, they will also learn from the technology and methods used by other nations, speed up Taiwan's National Accreditation Process system, and connect with Japan. In order to foster collaboration between the two sides, the units developed communication lines, greatly enhancing Taiwan's capacity for search and rescue.

Additionally, the National Fire Agency announced that in order to further enhance Taiwan's international humanitarian rescue capabilities, members of the search and rescue team will conduct combined training with the fire rescue mobile unit of the Tokyo Fire Department after the joint exercise and technical exchange trip. They hope to learn more about Japan's international humanitarian rescue mechanism and training model, as well as share the experience of Taiwan's search and rescue team.
