At 54 years old, Ms. Fang and her husband, who married late, had always longed to have their own child but were unsuccessful despite multiple attempts at IVF. After undergoing surgery for uterine adenomyosis and polyp removal, she unexpectedly conceived naturally and was surprised to be carrying fraternal twins. This unexpected pregnancy filled her with joy and gratitude. The ERAS program aims to integrate the care process for surgical patients through a multidisciplinary team approach, helping patients reduce discomfort during surgery, accelerate recovery, and minimize the risk of complications. This program is particularly suitable for older pregnant women, effectively lowering the risks associated with advanced maternal age. Dr. Li emphasized that the closely connected steps of the program aid in swift post-surgery recovery, enabling patients to return to their normal lives as soon as possible. The optimal age for women to get pregnant is between 25 to 30 years old. She expressed her gratitude for the meticulous care from the medical team, especially for her rapid post-operative mobility and good recovery. Ms. Wu Chia-Hui, Head Nurse at Taitung Mackay Memorial Hospital, also mentioned that caring for older pregnant women involves facing greater risks, but with Ms. Fang’s active cooperation, the support of the ERAS program, and the collaboration of the medical team, her recovery was ideal.

This successful case showcases the advancements in medical technology and the value of professional medical teams, providing precious confidence and hope for other older women.
