Taiwanese students grab 6 gold medals in the 18th International Junior Science Olympiad

Taiwanese students participated in the "18th International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO)" hosted by the United Arab Emirates in 2021. The results were announced on the evening of the December 20, showing that 6 students grab gold medals. Pan Wen-chung (潘文忠), the Minister of Education, immediately sent congratulations after getting the good news, expressing his encouragement to the outstanding students for covering themselves with glory & letting the world see Taiwan.

Individual and team competitions in physics, chemistry, and biology were held for pupils 15 years old and younger at the event, which began on December 12 in Dubai.

Lin Hsuan-ming (林軒名) of Tainan First Senior High School, one of the Olympiad's winners, also took home the "theory category" and "best overall category" honors. Lin described himself as the type of person who enjoys taking on new difficulties and uses critical thinking to solve them.

Taiwan has participated in the competition since 2004 and has achieved good results over the years. So far, Taiwan has won a total of 89 gold and 13 silver medals.

The gold medalist said he had gained a lot of knowledge from competing in the Olympiad and was pleased with the team's overall performance.

Chang Cheng-han (張丞漢) of National Tainan First Senior High School, Chen Po-kai (陳柏凱) of Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School, and Hsu Meng-che (許孟哲) of Kaohsiung Municipal Kaohsiung Senior High School are the other five gold medalists.

Rong Ching-yi (戎慶一) of Taichung Municipal Taichung First Senior High School, as well as Tsai I-shan (蔡依珊) of Tainan Municipal Jiansing Junior High School, are also on the list.

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the six Taiwanese participants, led by National Taiwan Normal University professor Chang Yung-ta (張永達), competed virtually this year.
